What each email verdict means
- Deliverable
- The mail server accepted the recipient during the check. SMTP acceptance is a signal, not a delivery or inbox placement guarantee.
- Risky
- The address needs caution. A catch-all domain may accept recipients that do not have a mailbox, so an individual inbox cannot be confirmed. Learn about catch-all results.
- Invalid
- The checks indicate that the address cannot receive mail. Review the spelling and confirm the address with the contact before using it.
- Unknown
- The checks did not return an answer. Timeouts, temporary deferrals or blocked connections can prevent a conclusion. Try again later or confirm the address through an existing channel.
What is checked?
The verifier checks syntax, domain mail records, SMTP responses and catch-all signals where available. A valid-looking address or a published MX record alone cannot prove that the inbox exists.
You can also look up a domain’s MX, SPF and DMARC records. Email verification does not establish consent to contact someone.
